The Kite Festival imply Gujarat's 'Social Strength' and like the kites, Gujarat takes off high to touch the skies to be the 'best on the planet.'

Everywhere throughout the State, in the Month of January, the peaceful blue sky with beautiful kites look wonderful and since morning to night stays spotted with vivid sprinkles of color with kites in a mixed bag of tints, shapes and sizes. The energy proceeds with the onset of night. As the sun sets and dimness floats over, adolescents keep contending one another in matchless quality in the sky, now with the paper lights fixing to their kite-strings. These lights known as tukkal influencing at the mellow stroke of wind introduces a gorgeous picture while some attempt to cut off these tukkals and delight in the fun.

Makar Sankranti (Kite Flying Day) denote the end of a long winter with the reappearance of the sun to the Northern Hemisphere. As per the Hindu space science the sun enters the zodiac of Makara (Capricorn). Thus, it is called Uttarayan or Makar Sankranti.

The unique essentialness appended to the festival of Makar sankranti, is Kite Flying. The divine beings who are accepted to have slept for six long months are currently conscious and the entries of paradise are tossed open!

Uttarayan is commended all over Gujarat however the energy is high at Ahmedabad, Surat, Nadiad and Vadodara. Surat, particularly is known especially for the solid string which is made by applying glass powder on the line string to give it a forefront.
